The dictionary definition of Genealogy is “the study of the history of the past and present members of a family or families” which I would say is accurate, so then what is family history if it is not the same. well, us family historians define it as building out a family pedigree and putting it in the context of place and time whilst using as many documents as we can to build up a picture of our ancestors’ lives.
Walking in My Ancestors’ Footsteps

When I book a short break in the UK, I try to factor in visiting places where my ancestors once lived. Last year, we visited Stratford-upon-Avon, and on the way home, I realised we could make a slight detour to the village where my 3x great-grandfather was baptised and grew up. It was incredibly moving to walk in his footsteps.

I love visiting archives, libraries and record offices as there is nothing better than viewing records that have not been viewed for years. You never know what you will find when you begin the research the boxes, books or letters until you uncurl that document you never know what you will find.
